The Butterfly Wallet, the Perfect Ultralight Wallet for Minimalists
Until I discovered the Butterfly Wallet, I carried the Saddleback Leather Front Pocket ID Wallet. It's a fantastic wallet, but it can't really hold paper money. At home I always use my debit card, but I was traveling to Europe and needed to find something so I could carry Euros. Luckily, I happened upon the Butterfly Wallet in an REI.
The Butteryfly Wallet is 3mm thin and weighs only 0.2 ounces when empty. That makes it lighter than a quarter. Since it's made of ripstop nylon, it is still durable. I used it on my trip and liked it so much that I've been carrying it ever since.
Some Amazon reviewers have complained about cards being too easy to slip out. There is a newer version that has narrower pockets to address this. That being said, I've found that this is only an issue if the wallet is held upside down, and this has not been a problem for me in the entire year I have used the old version. I imagine that it's much less of a problem in the current version.
Pros:
- Ultralight
- Superthin
- Can carry a lot of cash and cards
- Durable, still in great shape after a year of use
Cons:
- Flimsy if there isn't at least one card in each section
- Cards can slip out if the wallet is held upside down
