Rivers Cuomo on Weezer moving to an independent label
1990’s Weezer is, and will always be, one of my favorite bands. Weezer now? Not so much.
Pitchfork: Now that you’re on an independent label is your music going to be more “indie” i.e. less polished and pop-sounding?
RC: No.
You have to love that answer. It pretty much sums up everything. I discovered Weezer through the Buddy Holly video that came with Windows 95. I think it’s great when great bands get big and experience success, they deserve it. When great bands get big and become awful bands, that’s when I have a problem. I’m not even going to talk about their new album cover that features a character from Lost. First the Snuggie and now this? Such a shame.
